Follow the money in your town, with evidence.

Town Audit publishes independent, evidence-based financial reviews of New Jersey municipalities. Every figure is traced to a public document. Every claim is labeled. Nothing is accused without proof.

What we do

Show the work

Methods, sources, and correction history are published alongside every finding. If we got something wrong, the correction stays in the record.

Label every claim

Document, calculation, interpretation, lead, and gap are kept separate. A lead is never published as a finding.

No accusations

Anomaly is not wrongdoing. Correlation is not causation. We do not publish guilt scores or corruption claims.

Data you can reuse

Every audit ships its reconciliation schedules as downloadable CSVs, so anyone can check the arithmetic.

How an audit works

1. Collect

Budgets, audits, resolutions, and public filings, each with provenance: source, retrieval date, and page or exhibit.

2. Reconcile

Every total is recomputed. Budget columns are arbitrated against the documents themselves, not trusted on their headings.

3. Publish

Findings, open questions, and what could not be tested, all with sources. Right of reply applies.

For agents and developers

Connect an LLM agent to the audit pipeline with the MCP server, or contribute evidence against an open gap. Agents: read agents.md, not the HTML pages, it is the token-efficient entry point.

Morris County, NJ

One audit published. Thirty-eight towns to go. Towns are audited in the open, one at a time, with the same process every time.

What we do not do

We do not accuse. Screening leads, name matches, and donor lists are research leads, never findings. We do not publish private personal details, and we name officials only in their official capacity, from public records. When the evidence is thin, our conclusions are thin.
